The world of horse racing has brought us to a level where it is very difficult for one owner to breed a horse, maintain it, train it and bear all the expenses. So the business of horse syndication came into action. Nowadays, there are many winning horses that have made their mark on the world and are not owned by one owner; rather, they have several owners. An excellent example of this is those horses that make up the Melbourne Cup field. As Australia’s most prestigious horse racing event, the Melbourne Cup attracts the finest thoroughbreds from across the world. Most if not all of these horses come from top syndications.
Syndication
Syndication can be done in the name of a company, firm or a group of people. It is governed by rules and needs proper documentation to achieve the completion. Even the authorities demand paper work for the transfer of syndicate membership. If the number of partners exceeds the number 10, it becomes a syndicate and limited ownership privileges apply.
In syndication these things have to be made sure:
- All owners should be given full ownership privileges;
- All owners should be able to benefit from the complete ownership experience; and
- Up to the level of investment should be able to feel like owing a horse.
As a registered owner you receive the following privileges:
- You have your name in the race book;
- A pass to the members stand on the day your horse is racing; and,
- Entries pass to the mounting enclosure for the race in which your horse has to run.
All the owners of the race horses are supposed to be of the age of 18 in Australia.
Regular syndication meetings are necessary for the following purposes:
- Selection of a horse’s name;
- Select a syndicate manager;
- Exchange contact details;
- Sign registration papers (first meeting);
- Meet the trainer; and,
- To remove any queries.
After the completion of transfer of ownership by the registrar of racehorses, further care and maintenance of the horse is the responsibility of the trainer and the owner. Thorough meetings with trainers are undertaken in order to make important decisions about the horses. Trainers will give you some suggestions and on which the majority will agree, shall be acted upon. Do listen to the advice of the trainer as such decisions are not taken lightly.
Racing and syndication
The government of Australia does not allow everyone to do public syndication. There are only five registered companies that are authorised to do so. It is a very touchy and very deliberate decision to make, and a lot of money is included as well, so you cannot let every second person have a colour of their own. Some frauds were caught in Australia who cheated people of their money and their horses. It is not a very difficult procedure. But the problem that persists is whether the syndication source and the people involved in the syndication are credible or not.
Now, even horses that race are so expensive and difficult to maintain and breed that many people are getting together to put in their money so that they can afford a good running horse. Many online websites are available for the syndication of horses. They show their business objectives, their plans, trainers, jockeys and all information that can help in making the decision regarding the choosing of the company for the syndication. They do not just give you lame reasons to convince you. You can also visit their previous customers and their place of business to know what they say is true or whether they are just trying to attract the audience. Over the last two decades, the business of syndication and thoroughbred racing has flourished in leaps and bounds. More and more betting is done and the quality of horses is improving day by day.
Racing and syndication are directly linked to each other. If you know what your own horse type is and what the factors are that affect your horse, you can bet easily and place a winning bet with more ease. This is also an easy way to put in less amounts of money and get more back. When you bet online, you can bet from the home, the office or even while travelling. It has never been easier to place that winning wager – online.
